Road Rally Rules
What exactly is a Road Rally anyway?
A Road Rally is a competition of technique, not speed!
The general format for a Road Rally is:
1. A predetermined route is selected, only one route can be used. Participants are given the route sheet at the Participants Meeting before the Road Rally begins. All questions from all participants are answered prior to the start of the Road Rally. When the Road Rally is started, each car leaves at 30 second intervals.
2. Questions pertaining to buildings, signs, cardinal directions (North, South, East, West), road names, and other things along the route must be answered; Each question is worth 5 points. Some questions are easier to answer than others. The answer to one question may be about a billboard (easy to answer), while the answer to another question may be about the direction of travel (harder to answer if you don't have a compass) Bonus questions are offered, but are very hard to answer because they may pertain to the number of "curve" signs along the WHOLE route, rather than just one place along the route. Bonus questions are also worth 5 points.
KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS!!!
3. All participants may speed at their own risk, however if a participant arrives too early to a checkpoint, they forfeit their ability to win, but may finish the Road Rally. The route of the Road Rally is timed at the speed limit. For instance, if a route is 100 miles long, and the speed limit along that route is 50 mph the entire distance, no participant can reach the end of the route in less than 2 hours.
4. All participants are given a half hour (30 minutes) allowance in order to complete a stage. For instance, if the route is predetermined to take 2 hours to complete at the speed limit, a participant may take up to 2 1/2 hours to complete the route. If a participant arrives at the end of the route more than 1/2 hour late, they are charged with a 5 point penalty.
TIMING, TIMING, TIMING!!!
5. The winner of the Road Rally is the car that answers the most questions correctly, which means they will have the most points. If a participant is late to the end of the route, the 5 point penalty comes out of their question point total. For instance, if a participant answers 10 questions correctly, they earn 50 points. If they arrive late to the end of the route, 5 points is deducted from that total, giving the participant a total of 45 points. Pretty easy, huh? In case of a tie in points, the winner will be determined by which participant finished in the least time without arriving early.
6. Each participant entry includes: 1 Vehicle (any street legal vehicle), 1 Driver, and 1 Navigator (Minimum of 2 people per vehicle. Additional passengers may ride along, however winnings are given to the Driver and Navigator ONLY).
YOU MAY ENTER ANY TYPE OF VEHICLE YOU WANT, THE ONLY REQUIREMENT IS A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE, CURRENT REGISTRATION, AND PROOF OF INSURANCE!!!
7. Motorcycles may participate, but take into consideration the fact that there is a 2 person MINIMUM, as well as that answers need to be written down while going down the road, which is not easy for a person riding on the back of a motorcycle.
8. The only other rule is that you must have fun! Not a bad rule to live by.
